After a technical delay in uploading these pictures (the internet available in a moving vehicle never seems stable), I am so very pleased to be presenting you this very flavourful treat: holiday spice nuts. YUM! These are very different than the infamous Maple Cinnamon Almonds because, well, they are festive :)
Somewhat missing the Christmas deadline, I've decided that these are actually New Years holiday spice nuts! They would be perfect with a glass of Kir Royal to toast the refreshing turn-of-the-page as we enter the year 2014.
This recipe is simple, delicious, and the added touch of black and cayenne pepper offer a great kick that compliments the sugary sweetness in a very gourmet way. They are crunchy and nutty on the inside, and both sweet and spicy on the outside. They act as a great host gift or last minute party snack. But best of all, they are most enjoyed with family by the fireplace.

Holiday Spice Pecans
Ingredients:- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2/3 granulated sugar
- 1 and 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp fresh ground black pepper
- 1 egg white
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 lb of pecans (I used mixed nuts, including pecans, almonds, pistachios, and cashews)
Directions:1. Preheat oven to 300F, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper (so incredibly crucial to save you at the clean-up stage)
2. Mix together the sugars and spices in a small bowl. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg white and water until it becomes very foamy. Stir in the nuts until completely coated, and then add the sugar and spice mixture. Stir until well coated, and then spread them out onto your prepared baking sheet.
4. Bake for 30 minutes, giving them a stir every ten minutes or so. Remove from heat, allow to cool before breaking them up and storing them in an air-tight container.
